The primary responsibilities will be to transport adult inmates, juvenile inmates, and mentally ill persons to and from other facilities including, but not limited to, court, other correctional facilities, and hospitals. The Detention Transport Officers will work directly with court services, probation, and social services, as well as the Douglas County Jail to arrange schedules and court appearances.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is accepting online applications for the position of Detention Transport Deputy (Full-Time). The applicant must have a Full-Time Peace Officer License or be eligible to be licensed by 4/1/2024. 

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office offers many different assignments and opportunities for Licensed Peace Officers and all special teams that respond to calls for service train regularly. These assignments and opportunities include: Air Boat Operations Team, Civil Process, Court Security Bailiff, DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) / School Resource Officer, Peer Support Team, Dive Team Search & Rescue, Drone Operations Team, Drug/Violent Crime Task Force Agent, Firearms Instructor, Fraud Investigator Unit, Honor Guard Team, Investigations Unit, K-9 Unit, Recreational Deputy, Snowmobile Patrol, SWAT Team (Special Weapons and Tactics Team), Taser Instructor, Use of Force Instructor, and Water Patrol Unit.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AT HIRE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Associate's Degree in Law Enforcement or higher (as required by POST Board).
  • Receive on-the-job training. 
  • Possess a valid Class D Minnesota Driver's License at all times.
  • Maintain a current Minnesota Peace Officer and Standard Training (POST) License. For hire: Current Minnesota Peace Officer and Standard Training (POST) License or eligible for licensure by 4/1/2024, by the MN POST Board, as a full-time status Peace Officer in the State of Minnesota.
  • Use of Force Training, Firearms Certified, Jail Certification.  
  • Maintain a working telephone in case of times of emergencies or as needed.
  • Must be able to qualify with firearms in accordance with department policy.

PREFERRED / DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience transporting inmates.
  • Previous experience in the care and custody of inmates.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and Use of Force certificates.
  • Good driving record.
