Municipal Attorney, Tenants Advocacy
The City of Union City, New Jersey seeks a licensed attorney to serve as counsel for all tenants who reside in the City of Union City. This position is part time.
The individual will be required to provide and distribute information to tenants regarding federal, state and municipal laws affecting the rights and duties of landlords and tenants. The attorney must have significant experience in representing residential tenants as a tenant’s advocate. The appointed attorney will be required and/or requested to do any of the following:
- Provide and distribute information to tenants regarding federal, state and municipal laws affecting the rights and duties of landlords and tenants.
- Operate a hotline that provides advice to tenants.
- Represent tenants in court.
- Provide free advice and assistance to apartment dwellers in their dealings with the City, rent control boards and appeals.
- Appear before state and federal tribunals on behalf of City tenants.
- Assists with the management of the staff of the Tenant Advocate office.
- Other issues and matters related to tenants and their rights.
Requirements:
- Must be an Attorney licensed to practice in the State of New Jersey.
- Tenant advocacy experience preferred.
- Knowledge of landlord-tenant law and significant experience in fighting evictions and/or rights of tenants.
- Ability to communicate in both English and Spanish preferred.
Salary:
- Salary: $100,000.
